Can Brussels sprouts be addictive? Yes they can. Cooking them low-and-slow “caramelizing” their own natural sugars not only makes them sweet, but deliciously crunchy on the outside when drizzled with some e.v. olive oil. Get ready for a “Matrix-style-revelatory-experience”…with Brussels sprouts.
Ingredients (serves 4):
1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts, cut lengthwise
3 tablespoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Fresh ground pepper
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F. Cut off the though ends of the Brussels sprouts and discard any brown or yellow leaves. Spread them on a baking sheet (if you are lazy like me just line it first with non stick aluminum foil. No washing afterwards!). Drizzle them with olive oil and then sprinkle them with kosher salt and pepper to your liking. Bake them for 20 min, or until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. You can sprinkle them with more salt if you like, olive oil or some drops of lemon juice when you serve them. I personally like them just as they are when they come out of the oven. Enjoy!
Tip: Did you know Brussels sprouts can help you lower cholesterol? They can also protect you from cancer because of four specific glucosinolates found in this vegetable: glucoraphanin, glucobrassicin, sinigrin, and gluconasturtiian.
